Spy v Spy

Finally, enough time for a proper post! O.K. I didn't HAVE enough time, I just made it... So Here Goes: I'm digging around on all the choon blogs you tube today, and I come across this crazy argument between Drop The Lime [DTL] Fans and General Midi Fans over each Remix of "Alice" by Moby. If you downloaded my most recent mix (GET IT HERE or see next post) then you would know that I picked the DTL Heavy Bass mix. As the name "Heavy Bass" implies, I've mostly been playing a strange concoction of: Fidget/Wobble Bass, Dubstep, Garage, House, Breakbeats & Electro. However, that is not to say that I dislike either mix. As you can tell from my Intro song for RightWorld:WrongWorld I dig the DTL version. However, even though the General Midi version was not heavy or upbeat enough for my last mix, it's a dang good mix. In fact, I wish the DTL version had a little more of the male vocal. Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy each:
General Midi Remix

Drop The Lime Remix

So, both mixes are damn good... BUT, I do have one question after seeing the following video and that would be: WTF is up with this strange performance:

I mean really? are you serious? I'm all about a good performance from a DJ/Producer, but this is crazy man! Hopefully, someone will comment on this and tell me that this is actually some sort of FAKE YouTube Posting!! Please?

EVERYDAY I'M HUSTLIN'
If you've been in this scene for any time at all you MUST know that Electronic Dance Music and Hip Hop have always been joined at the hip. A sort of brother & sister Love/Hate type of relationship. Although it often seems sort of one sided. As in, we LOVE hip hop and they HATE dance music. Nevertheless, the relationships continue. Almost everyone I know loves all sorts of Hip Hop songs. Almost everyone I've ever met (be it street thug to Suit & Tie Corporate Types) loves a little Hip Hop. Everyone's seen the geekiest of geeks talkin' bout "If you see me in the club, It's Goin Down" or "Snap Yo Fangas, Do The Step" Even I was originally a little BBoy/breakdancer type with my buddy Philip from '84-'88 (that would be 19 hundred and 84 for you young bucks) and I spent a couple of years as a part-time Hip Hop DJ in the early 1990's. Later I caught the Techno/House bug and I officially completed the switch around 1993. Although I may not be a Hip Hop DJ anymore, I have always followed the trends and kept collections of all types of Hip Hop trax.

To see what I mean, you just need to take a minute to compare a lot of the old hip hop (1st Gen-East Coast then 2nd Gen-West Coast) tracks with the creation of various dance styles such as; BreakBeat, 2-Step, DnB, Jungle, etc. Just think of the Third Generation of Hip Hop (Southern Dirty South & Crunk) with the likes of Lil Jon, Yung Joc and others. Where did that sound come from? Well, I knew exactly what it was the first time I heard it. I was in Iraq and (to the surprise of all my young soldiers) I had to educate them on the fact that Lil' Jon and others did not "make up" that sound out of thin air. As soon as I heard "It's Goin Down" or "Snap Yo Fangas"-- I knew it was that Human Resource "Dominator" and LA Style "James Brown is Dead" -German Synthesisers making that sound. If you didn't already know this, here's a little VIDEO HISTORY for you:
"Dominator"(1991)

"James Brown is Dead"

VS.

"Snap Yo Fingers"(2006)

"It's Goin Down" (2006)

So here are some more crossovers for you. Even though it was a Great Track, we all know that Rick Ross' hip hop version of this was completely played out after it's release in August of 2006.

So, how long has it been now? Almost 3 years! So now come the dance remixes. We have such a short memory these days that I think it's just about time. And you know what? I friggin' love this song all over again! That's the Shiyaat!... DJ... Don't play that song ONE MORE TIME! But Here it goes:

RICK ROSS - "HUSTLIN":
This first remix is from a local crew that I just found out about named Paul Anthony & ZXX:

(AC Slater DubStep Remix)

(2 Bit Thugs Remix)
~No Video Available - 2 Bit Thugs Site~
Here are a few more Wobbly, Fidgety, Wonkity, Garage-Bassline-Dubstep-Hip Hop Crossover type tracks I've been playing or come across recently:

Cypress Hill "Insane In The Membrane (2Bit Thugs Remix)"
2 Live Crew "Party (2 Bit Thugs In Harmony 2x2 Remix)"
Chris Brown "Kiss Kiss (Dexplicit Mix)"
Khia "My Neck, My Back (MT Remix)"
Kriss Kross "Jump, Jump (Funkanomics Planet Cross Remix)"
Rihanna "Disturbia (Dj Weekends' Party Alarm Remix)"

WILD STYLE:
I guess you could say that this next track is not that "NEW" per se. It came out in mid December 2008, but I just recently found it. Somehow I kept passing it up! Since we are on a Hip Hop vs. Dance trip today, here's another perfect example of a tune with ties so tight, It could be a hot track in a dance OR hip hop club. As you can see from my current Chart and my latest Mix, it's one I wish I hadn't missed! This one is so friggin' NASTY that it is currently my favorite track right now. This is "Get Wild" Ft. Big Daddy Kane:Stanton Warriors. I'll my favorite mix up as soon as I track it down! Here's the "Deek & Solo Mix"

Update: It looks like my favorite version has become a Secret Weapon because it's not posted anywhere for free! So here's the only link I could find for my #1 song for April (even though it was released in December)

INTERESTING LINKS:
While browsing around looking for useful links to put up, I did a little google on Fidget (i.e. Fidget House). Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum and I found a pretty little site called: www.MissFidget.com. I'll keep reading through but here is just a few of the interesting things listed on what could possibly become my new Favorite News Source:

ShamWow Guy in a Bloody Brawl With Sex Worker!
Vince Shlomi is best known for his ShamWow infomercials. Recently while in Miami he had an unfortunate encounter with a sex worker that resulted in both parties being bloodied, battered and arrested. Apologies dear reader for these graphic bloody photos. Alas, I can’t do anything about the fact that the ShamWow guy is a celebrity.

I guess you could say he won the fight, sort of? But either way, MissFidget--You Rock!

OLD NEWS vs NEW NEWS

Fun Stuff for APRIL FOOLS DAY!
The links will be coming soon I swear" I've been utilizing YouTube to send out new or interesting trax, but soon I'll start hooking you up with the links. For Now: Excellent video showing the history of M.A.W. (Masters at Work) and their album "NuYorican Soul". Apparently these guys are just now on MySpace? "NUYORICAN SOUL FINALLY ON MYSPACE!!!!!!! Little Louie Vega and Kenny dope "Masters at work" on this wonderful project." They probably mean info about this rekkid is now on MySpace.

THE ARMY DOES DOPE?
Some Hilarious News! In case you didn't know, I've spent 11 years in the Army and two tours in Iraq. There are volumes and volumes of rules and regulations; some arbitrary, some are not. I know of no other institution that is harder on illicit drug use than the military. So, it came as quite a shock when I read this article from www.military.com at the beginning of March. Apparently, the Army is now considering utilizing HDMA as part of a treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Hmmm, isn't that basically what is was supposed to be created for in the beginning?

If you discovered it in your kid’s room there’d be hell to pay. If it appeared in a random urinalysis, it could end your career. And if you told your friends you were considering taking it, they might think you’ve suffered a mid-life crisis.

But a South Carolina psychiatrist and a Harvard-educated researcher are looking for veterans who’ve been through hell and are willing to explore a fresh way of getting past the trauma using a drug long associated with the late-night party crowd.

Ecstasy, clinically known as MDMA and outlawed recreationally for decades, is making a gradual comeback in the medical community as therapists rediscover its therapeutic value – especially in dealing with post traumatic stress disorder.

NEIL CAVUTO GOES OFF!
This is not where I typically link economic or political stuff, but these two videos are friggin' hilarious. Neil Cavuto goes off on Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla) on the bill before congress to cap "excessive pay".

Neil has a change of heart for April.

Faithless "Insomnia": Somehow related to DIDO? or something like that, I don't know. However, what I do know is what a BAD A$$ track this was back in the day.

Well, I say "Rafferties Wrong Bass Dub Mix" is a dubstep version that will definitely bring the memories back. I'm not sure, but let me know if there is something weird about the timing and the vocals!! Maybe I'm just hearing things. Either way, mix on the downbeats and you'll be fine.
Here's the track.

A Little TechHouse Anyone? SlaveRecordings.com went live today marking the rebirth of D. Ramirez's record label Slave. Disillusioned by the need to conform instilled by other labels, D. Ramirez decided to resurrect his label and release tracks through his own label, giving himself the freedom to make the kind of "Twisted" house music he has become famous for.

May 2009 marks the first release on Slave "The Wired E.P". Two brand new D. Ramirez tracks "Wired" and "The Road of Excess" featuring mystery pop star collaborator LDV both from the steel city of Sheffield. Remixes from Rob Babicz and D.Ramirez RELEASE DATE: 26th MAY 2009, DIGITAL-26 May 2009 marks the release of ‘The Wired EP’ by Sheffield’s leading purveyor of red-hot underground house D Ramirez, on Slave Recordings. Both original tracks ‘Wired’ and ‘Road Of Excess’ feature the vocals of LDV, a mysteriously anonymous star, also from the steel city. Remixes come courtesy of house and techno veteran Rob Babicz and D. Ramirez himself. Wired- D.Ramirez (Orig Mix) Already championed by Pete Tong on Radio 1’s Essential Selection, ‘Wired’ is Inspired by the artist’s home town of Sheffield and its industrial past. Heavy on the bleeps synonymous with the town, ‘Wired’ is dark and searing electronic house, featuring pitched-down vocals that recall that other home of machine-inspired funk, Detroit. The production is tight, the energy is unrelenting and the drops are heavy. Checkit!

Flo Rida "In the Ayer (Jeremy Word Remix)": Local Dallas boy still cranking out quality remixes and trax.

REM
"Losing My Religion (DJ Kue Private Remix)": Here's a decent remix of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion". Not too cheezey, and not too heavy... basically making the original mixable. Here's the link.

Other Good Stuff I Found:
Emerson Todd: "My Eyes" (Worthy's Blurry Cornea Mix)
Manfred Mann - "Blinded By The Light" (DJ Donna Summer Boot)
Madness - "Our House" (Martin Ternander Remix)
Elton John & Kiki Dee - "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" (Mighty Mi Mix)

Still Luv Dem Breaks & Dem Warriors Mon!

True pioneers of a sound that broke all the rules back in 1998, Stanton Warriors took garage and twisted it beyond all recognition, dropping speaker shattering bass lines and massive beats...all to devastating effect. Stanton Warriors had arrived. The Warriors continue to pump out crowd pleasers after all these years. Hands Up, Thumbs Down, Represent Dat D-Town! Stanton Warriors Remix:

Since we're talking about the Warriors, here's my old favorite from the Gorillaz:

Where's Your Head At?

This song needs no introduction and neither do the remixer's. Jean Elan:

HOUSE MUSIC LIVES!

I knew this song was BIG back in the day, AND I knew the remixes were awesome. It's fun to see that thousands of others think the same thing. Angello and Laidback Luke did an excellent job. Can you believe the same song was a Top10 Club hit in the 90's AND the 2000's.

The fun starts at :50 secs.

The 80's are back in FULL SWING

Well I'm sick and halfway in bed, so I'll keep it short & sweet. Here is a video of a track off of the newest Ministry of Sound Annual '09. This is "Girl You Can't Dance" by Example. Here's a link to Don Diablo's Slammin' Mix of the same track.

Here's the 80's electro flashback kid Calvin Harris' new video " I'm Not Alone" from his latest album due out in April. It's got about a 45 sec vocal intro (good for mixin's) then there's a little of a trance riff before gettin' all flashback. Can you dig it?

Grammy Winner Goes Dubstep & Gets Jaxxed!

Since this is my favorite soul singer right now AND she won a grammy... I figured I'd show a few different sides of her.

I'll post the links to the actual track a little Later.

Recently Harder To Find

I added a much larger hard drive to my macbook pro, Yeah!!! However, in the process I somehow lost a ton of tracks. It took me forever to find most of them again. This is the Clark Able Mix of the Peas hot track from a few years back.

Black Eyed Peas: My Humps (Clark Able Remix)

Since Flo Rida has a new track, here's a good remix of Low.

Low (Dominik Von Werdt Remix)
